Aquarium Guide
Take the plunge and volunteer at the newly remodeled Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park! This program is for 14 years through 18 year olds. Get your feet wet in the new Stingray Bay or Coastal Touch Tank. Help educate guests about aquatic life and become a guide for our aquatic life conservation. As a Aquarium Guide, you'll have amazing animal adventures while learning all about animal care, job responsibility and teamwork. Volunteers work one 4 hour shift per week, morning or afternoon. Junior Camp Counselors
If you are 14 years of age or older, enjoy animals and like to lead children's activities, you'll enjoy being a Junior Camp Counselor during our summer programs. You'll lead campers (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8) in a variety of games and crafts, as well as assist our instructors during tours and field trips. You'll also join a select group of people trained to handle our education animals. This program runs weekly during June and July. Volunteers must work in full week increments (Monday-Friday). Junior Conservation Guide
This popular program for 13yr olds through 18yr olds gives you the opportunity to be informal educators, teaching Zoo guests about a variety of animal species and conservation topics. You will be trained to use interesting biofacts, games, crafts, and do animal presentations. You will learn all about the zoo husbandry, conservation efforts that the zoo is involved with as well as job responsibility and teamwork. Junior Zookeepers
This popular program, for 11 and 12 year olds, gives young people a chance to shadow zookeepers in the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo with a variety of farm animals. As a Junior Zookeeper, you'll have amazing animal adventures while learning all about animal care, job responsibility and teamwork. Youth Event Specialist (YES!)
Youth Event Specialist volunteers are 14 year olds to 18 year olds who staff a wide variety of events held at the Zoo and Children's Aquarium at Fair Park throughout the year. They provide hospitality and information, staff games and activities for children and may assist with set-up or preparation work. This position requires flexibility, enthusiasm and a love of people. You will learn all about the zoo and efforts that the zoo is involved with as well as job responsibility and teamwork. For more information contact youthvolunteers@dallaszoo.com.

General Requirements

  • Applicants MUST attend one of the Informational Meetings to be eligible for these programs.
  • Applicants must complete all required paperwork and schedule an interview.
  • Junior Zookeepers and Conservation Guides volunteer in the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo for one 4.5-hour shift per week, for approximately three months.  Shifts are available seven days per week.
  • Programs offered for Spring, Summer or Fall of 2012
  • Aquarium Guides volunteer at the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park for a 4-hour shift per week. Shifts are available seven days per week.
  • Junior Camp Counselors volunteer with the Education Department for 3 weeks out of the summer.
  • Zoo Crew volunteers for special events throughout the year when needed.
